Center Axis Relock (CAR) is a shooting system primarily intended for close quarters battle invented by Paul Castle.
The CAR system features a bladed stance (the shooter's weak-side shoulder facing the target), a close-to-body firearm hold, and sighted or non-sighted fire as the situation dictates. This differs from other shooting styles such as the Weaver which feature a more squared stance (i.e. facing the target more squarely) with the pistol held squarely in front of the face and some form of sighted fire.
Center Axis Relock We're proud to offer our students training using the Center Axis Relock (C.A.R.) system, developed by Paul Castle of Sabre Tactical, via IPD Systems. Consists of four easily-transitioned positions (high, combat high, extended, and apogee) that work harmoniously with the body. Mar 06, 2020 Center Axis Relock is a movie gimmick. - The Center Axis Relock system, also known as C.A.R., is a shooting technique that was developed by law enforcement tactical trainer Paul Castle and taught at the Sabre Tactical Training Center. When Paul created the C.A.R system, it was with the belief that better methods of gun handling would drastically save lives while also improving the shooters hit rate.
- Mar 30, 2011 C.A.R. (Center Axis Relock) is more than a grip, stance or range application. Created by Paul Castle, C.A.R. Is a complete, integrated combat system for pistol, shotgun, and rifle. It was designed to meet the needs of LE and military operators. The goal is to improve the hit rate.
The CAR system is primarily intended for handgun shooting although it can also be used with long guns, batons, tasers and OC sprays.

Center Axis Relock A Closer Look by Chris Adams
Director Tim George and his instructors teach the Center Axis Relock. It is an awesome system and will get you to using both stong and weak sides equally well in little time. If you ever get a chance, I would highly recommend taking their course and the cost is ver reasonable. The development of CAR was based on the requirements of close-range combat with a handgun, some of which are: the need for speed, optimum use of cover, ambidextrous ability, realistic weapon retention and performance under the negative effects of stress. In as much, the following key points are useful to understanding CAR: Archestra license manager.
The shooting system works in harmony with the body when under stress and is particularly reliable in close quarter situations.
The system was developed to improve marksmanship by focusing on natural visual focal points and gross motor movements.
The stability of the shooter is improved by creating a lower center of gravity and a secure base.
So what exactly is the CAR firing platform? There is no intent here to create a how-to guide for CAR; what follows is merely an outline of some of the features of the system. There are four basic positions in CAR; high, combat high, extended and apogee. These positions are used based upon the distance of the threat and the speed required making deep hits. For example, high position (similar to SUL) is comparable in usage to the high-ready of traditional stances, whereas apogee is a fully extended position more suitable for slower, precise aimed fire. Apogee looks similar to Weaver, but the weapon is canted inboard slightly. The basic four positions are mirror-image for right-hand fire and left-hand fire. There are physiological traits associated with using combinations of dominant vs. non-dominant eye and hand combinations and these traits are exploited well in CAR. Also, the use of sighted-fire and non-sighted fire are integrated into a system which allows the shooter to adjust methods based upon need and skill. One forearm is always directly behind the weapon, this accounts for the excellent recoil control and ability to shoot very fast. Because the weapon is always close to the torso, reload/malfunction drills have improved economy of motion. Weapon retention is outstanding. Nasty combinations of elbows and pistol punches which can develop real power and force are finally achievable. In CAR one hand merely offers extra support, and the firing hand can fire solo with solid close-range accuracy. This frees-up a hand for the shooter to open doors, key his radio mic, etc. CAR works well with longarms, OC spray, taser and other related weapons; the benefits still apply and there can finally be commonality in training among diverse weapons. In as much, CAR can be called a system instead of a one-off specialty position.
Jun 30, 2020 Apps provide multiple entry points. Android apps are built as a combination of components that can be invoked individually. For example, an activity is a type of app component that provides a user interface (UI). The 'main' activity starts when the user taps your app's icon. Android app development video tutorials download.
CAR is a radical approach to weapons handling which will benefit the patrol officer as well as the soldier and SWAT operator. CAR is a step in the evolution of weapons handling; a change away from a range mindset towards a tactical one. The mechanics are solid, the movements simple and easily learned, and the advantages worth a close look. CAR is versatile, undeniably fast, and here to stay.
Criticisms
Car Center Axis Relock
1. The CAR system has been criticized as impractical for individuals utilizing body armor. While the bladed stance somewhat reduces the shooter's profile (theoretically making it harder to hit), it greatly increases the possibility of taking a hit to his unprotected side flank (as opposed to directly impacting against the front or rear of the armor) and may allow a single projectile to penetrate multiple organs in a side-to-side traversion.
2. While using a pistol under the CAR system, the muzzle is not in front of the left bicep (for right handed grip) and isn't even beyond the lungs in smaller-barreled handguns. This practice is extremely dangerous as it easily leads to self-inflicted gunshot wounds. This violates the 2nd rule of gun safety and therefore if this method is practiced at most shooting ranges it would be a violation of their rules, leading to ejection of the shooters from the range and/or permanent ban of entering the premises.

WHAT IS C.A.R.
Center Axis Relock [C.A.R]. is a comprehensive, Close Quarter Combat Self Defense System, developed by Paul Castle, that is a synergy between the recognized Combat Triad Concept [Gun Handling, Marksmanship & Mindset Skills] and Paul Castle’s concept of Power, Accuracy & Speed. The end result is the creation of a Mobile Fighting Platform that that is not designed for a traditional “square” range and a “static firing line” position. It is, however, designed to give each C.A.R. Practitioner the ability to defensively fight in a 360 degree movement pattern successfully.
WHY USE C.A.R.?
C.A.R. is designed to address, as a minimum, the following real-life tactical scenarios for “Trained Civilians” who are legally armed:
1.Prevent a Car Jacking from the Driver’s Side of a vehicle if you are approached from the Driver’s Side of the Vehicle?;
2.Prevent a Car Jacking from the Driver’s Side of a vehicle if you are approached from the Passenger Side of the vehicle?;
3.Prevent a Car Jacking if you are seated on the Passenger’s Side of a vehicle if approached from the Driver’s Side of the Vehicle?;
4.Prevent a Car Jacking from the Passenger Side of a vehicle if you are approached from the Passenger Side of that vehicle?;
5.Help you respond tactically to a “Home Invasion” if you had to reach a friend or family who was trapped on the opposite side of your house or is on another floor? and
6.Help you successfully respond tactically if you are attacked in a confined/restricted space?
THE BENEFITS OF C.A.R.
1.The C.A.R. Platform, once mastered, will create a “Circle-of-Control”. This means that the Practitioner is able to move his/her body 360 degrees, as needed, to focus on and respond to threats from any direction
2.C.A.R. teach the Practitioner to Shoot while moving;
3.Will increase the Practitioner’s Target Acquisition Ability and increase their ability to make multiple hits on their targets consistently;
4.Trains each C.A.R. Practitioner to Shoot Ambidextrously;
5.The C.A.R. Platform reduces the size of the Practitioner as a “Large” Target;
6.The C.A.R. Firing Platform will reduce weapon recoil by at least 90%;
7.C.A.R. Firing Platform will increase/reinforce the Practitioner’s ability to retain their Weapon(s);
8.The C.A.R. System utilizes a 2-Tier Marksmanship Skill-Set [Aiming & Point Shooting];
9.The C.A.R. System is totally designed as a Close Quarter Combat System.

What does NOT work, is being right-handed and sighting with my left eye. Traditionally however, this may have caused many sight-picture challenges. Finally, there is no good position in CAR that allows you to take accurate, ranged shots. Castle has done is attempt to develop an entire system around it that as you have discovered, brings with it many disadvantages, and therefore IMO, as a shooting “system”, it leaves much to be desired.
